The Hans-Ertel Centre for Weather Research programme was initiated by the Scientific Advisory Board of the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) to enhance research in the field of weather forecasting at German universities and non-university institutions and within the DWD.
The Hans-Ertel Centre is a research network with long-term perspectives. The structural goal of the programme is to enable the building-up of a research network by awarding a four-year start-up financing with the aim that this network will begin to sustain itself by means of external research funds acquired on the basis of the technical-professional competence created in the financing phase and the in-kind contributions made available by the institutions involved.
Two of five research groups funded within the Hans-Ertel Centre are coordinated at the University of Bonn:
- >> Topic 1: Object-based Analysis and SEamless prediction
- >> Topic 4: Retrospective Analysis of Regional Climate
